Hey ppl... am an amateur in blogging.. so i'll start with a movie review...
I'll start with the hype surrounding the movie.. Posters like "Chinna pasangla yaar kitta vilayadreenga", "nammavarin avatharam" and "aandavarin dasavatharam" were seen everywhere here, at coimbatore. Am sure Chennai wld be teeming with these. But an actor like kamal donning 10 roles itself is a hype or makes u expect a lot from the movie...
Most of the characters are identifiable, but some characters left me dumb founded, like the Martial arts guy. The makeup and kamal's voice over were pretty gr8.. I cld remember tat wen this specific character is introduced the audience kept seein him as someone else or just an extra.. But wen he talks the audience identify him and the applause that follows is deafening. I cld clearly see y kamal's been called as a genius. Kamal's acting in this movie can be phrased as "semma gethu".
The story:
The film follows a slightly non-linear storytelling style.. The events occuring in the climax are shown and the scientist character narrates the story, Chaos theory being the underlying plot. 3 and a quarter hours for saying "Everything's interlinked and happens fr a reason"... But the screen play cld've been written with equal importance to the plot too instead the characters are given em all..The first 15 minutes of the movie, the 14th century scenes, are the best i've ever seen in a Tamil film... Kamal's proven versatility is proven beyond doubt here. Then the story shifts back to 2004. The fight for possession of the biocyte by the good and bad forces fill up the middle part.. Tsunami's used as a plot ender here.. The biocyte or whatever it is, is destroyed by NaCl and hence the tsunami... Nice work anyway...
Positive points of the movie include the following
Kamal's acting( obviously)
Makeup by wat they say as "hollywood" technicians is neat too.. They cld've shown a lil more difference btwn the tall guy character and the fletcher character( closely resembles mickey rourke's character from sin city).. They're slightly similar.. Gr8 anyways..
The songs. Himesh has done a fair job
Camera. Ravi varman shld recieve accolades fr his work.. The scene where the camera pans around kamal tied to the statue. The CG work's pretty good here.
Audiography. H.Sridhar has done a cool job. Being a sound enthusiast myself the sound effects, except fr some mismatches, were nothing short of stunning.
The stunts were cool too. Some foreigner who worked in transporter has worked in it. Gr8 work.
Dialogs were neat.. Specifically liked the scene when fletcher and the japanese guy are fighting bfore the Tsunami scene.. Japanese guy asks fletcher how he wants to die..
Fletcher says "tats not tat simple, remember hiroshima??" and the japanese says "remember pearl harbor??"... cool one.. Kudos to Kamal..
Screenplay was moderate and so was the story..(by Kamal too).
Negative points:
Background score. Complete blunder... Hardly catchy or even noticeable.
CG work at the end depicting the Tsunami was horrible... I expected something atleast on the lines of "The day after tomorrow"...
The scenes with the CID, tat were meant to be hilarious, are simply aren't hilarious....
But these -ve points don't spoil the whole spirit of the movie. To frankly say the movie was not a major disappointment but it was for sure to some extent for me.. The story is simple enuf for most of the audience to understand. The chaos theory and the initial intro wld've been too deep for some ppl.
If u like kamal or if u wan't to be surprised watch it fr sure...
